Childhood obesity also makes them more vulnerable to heart disease
Children with a high BMI and aged between 9 and 12 years old are more prone to high blood pressure and high cholesterol and high insulin levels in the blood, which may cause diabetes (all these risk factors for heart disease).
Child obesity
This results in a new study from Bristol University led by Prof. Debbie Lawlor studied 5235 children were part of long study tracking the health of more than 14,000 children since birth. The researchers assessed BMI, waist circumference and fat mass for children ranging in age from 9 to 12 years.
And children after they arrived for a teenager (15-16 years) were tested blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and insulin levels, and the results were positive in these tests which showed the risk factors for heart disease.
The results showed that high body mass index at age 9-12 is associated with risk factors for heart disease at the age of 15-16, and even when the analysis was adjusted for a wide range of other factors.
