A recent Australian study stressed the importance of vitamin d in bone protection, noting that calcium alone is not sufficient to achieve this objective.



The study found that treatment by calcium can maintain bone thickness but is no different from other regular medicines prescribed to the patient in such a situation.

Dr. Richard Prince from the University of Western Australia, that calcium loses its effectiveness in maintaining long-term bone thickness, stressing that the study involving 70 women between the ages of 70 and 80 years old, showed that taking calcium and vitamin d keep the thickness of the bones of patients during the period of research, also found that taking vitamin d and calcium to keep their piece of bone thickness in the hip.

He advised the Prince women belonging to this age with 1,200 milligrams of calcium and 1,000 IU of vitamin d in order to preserve the bones, particularly in the hip.
